The Renaissance of Flash

Digit has a great article about the return of Flash and what’s driving it. I definitely agree with the article that Flash 8 and Actionscript 2.0 was where I started to look at Flash differently. Flash is starting to look like a mature technology and an absolute alternative to alot of small brocureware type sites that need to be promote their brand identity through more media driven elements and ideas. I’ve completely changed the way I look at web development now.

Papervision 3d

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Alright I’m gonna show you something really cool today, this is an example of the new actionscript virtual machine running a new 3d engine for Flash being developed called Papervision 3d. This example revolves around a custom object probably built using some form of 3d software and ambient occlusion has been baked onto the object producing some awesome refractions and giving a great feeling of the scene being globally illuminated. The performance is great but there are some major problems with anomolies showing on the frame rendering. Which is supposedly the same problems Sony had with Playstation 1 so I’m sure they’ll figure it out at some point soon. Check it out here
