New Goya Project

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

So Meri got a new Canon 30D with a sick IS lens and we had to try it out so we went to Butterfly World. The project was a tad bit harder than the other projects I had been on. I think we’re going to have to try this one again soon. I’ve sat here and compiled the best photographs and we barely have any butterfly. Those buggers are a bit harder to photograph than I thought. We have some pictures of the wickedest flowers I’ve seen in Florida though, very cool. Check it out here…

Also I’m totally getting rid of that Lightbox Javascript junk in the old Goya pages. Total garbage, but worked when I needed it super quick.  I’m thinking of doing this all myself.  I need a way to post pictures quickly to my website without any B.S. blockers or coding.  So I’m thinking of making something like a bloggy-slide-show-thinga-ma-jiggy but really incredible.  Stay Tuned.

Cute site

Web Tier Compiler For Flex

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Adobe is releasing a new web tier compiler for Flex on Adobe labs. This allows you to simply copy the Flex files into a directory visible to your server and your app will be compiled automatically when you request the main application file using your web browser. The resulting model feels very similar to working with ASP, JSP, PHP, or CF.

It is available for both Apache and IIS, and runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

All that’s needed is a Java Runtime Environmnet (JRE). This has NOTHING to do with Flex Data Services and FDS applications will not run with it. It does NOT require J2EE. It’s just a simple piece of software you can deploy to make Flex development more like standard web development. Enjoy!

Flash is the new publishing tool of the century

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

A nice article in the Guardian with Mark Anders about Flash being the next biggest publishing tool like PDF, Photoshop or Quark. Its great to see people coming around to the fact that Flash is an extremely powerful tool now. The Flash/Flex/Apollo Ecosystem is a powerful combination when it comes to building not just web apps but disconnected desktop apps. But the true power of Flash is still being dreamt by Adobe so I definitely expect exciting times for web publishing.

37signals attacks the idea of “offline” apps

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I just watched the Decline of Western Civilization on IFC.  The movie is about the 80’s MTV Heavy Metal Big Hair generation.  Well in this one part they’re interviewing this famous guy in some band that I totally forgot the name of.  Anyway he’s in his pool getting interviewed, he’s drinking Vodka, I mean, pouring Vodka down his throat screaming about how he loves to drink and his MOM is sitting on the side of the pool not saying anything and you know she’s got her hand on the phone waiting to call 911 when he starts drowning in the pool again.

Well this article that 37 Signals wrote up is kinda like that.  You know, those guys that fueled that other bubble called web 2.0? They’re pissed at applications like Apollo and Flex are in the limelight.
