Adobe Thermo (Video)

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Hmm, kinda looks like Microsoft Blend. Lol….But waaaaaaay better. But there is already some debate going on about workflow issues. Which is the same thing I told the Microsoft Blend Devs. What happens is that you have mxml for instance, the developer starts changing things around during development, but what happens when you need to get it back into Thermo? Blend would only output once then that was it. When the xaml was spit out and added to Visual Studio that was it, no going back. Hopefully Adobe gets it right, designing and developing bounce back and forth, not always a one shot deal.

Adobe released Air beta 2 today on Labs.  I also found this article on Macworld that also talkes about the release yet also mentions a project code named Cocomo with will provide hosting services for screensharing, white-boarding, and video conferencing solutions to be intergrated into developer’s applications.  They also mentioned Share which will provide online document sharing and collaboration.

Astro and Hydra on Labs

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

MAX keynote demoed “Astro” and “Hydra“, “Astro” is the codename for the next version of Flash Player 10. What they talked about was a new way to do text in the player. Previously, text wasn’t handled as well as it could have been in the Flash Player and that’s led to it feeling less “native” and I think it some cases less “webby”. It also didn’t support bidirectional text. They’re making the text rendering engine extensible. This means developers will be able to create their own rules for things like layout, and languages on top of the Flash Player. It also means we’ll be able to roll out text updates whenever we want which is going to mean text will be an important and vibrant part of the player.

Hydra is also pretty cool, Developers/Designers can now create their own filter effects. Because one of the goal of “Hydra” is interoperability between our design products and the player. So you can use the language to create custom filters, effects and blend modes and then use them in a lot of different places.  The possibility of using these filters across Adobe products is also a possibility although not confirmed.

Wow! Adobe has unleashed the gauntlet today, where to start??? Ok, on labs, all new stuff, they put out new Beta versions of Flex 3, AIR, Flash Player, Adobe Media Player, Spry, Dreamweaver and Flash extensions for AIR and the all new product “Share”. You can check them out here. I’m going to have a field day playing with all their new stuff. Pretty exciting. Anyway, next up is the Devnet which they changed over the weekend. The whole site has been updated and its just incredible. They’ve added and reorganized more stuff than you can imagine. Its definitely a great resource site now for developers. BTW, the Adobe Media Player is absolutely incredible, a must download.

Wow is this different. Adobe has purchased the company that created Buzzword, a Flex based online word processor. Looks like Adobe is taking the Microsoft/Silverlight route early and trying to beat Microsoft into the online app world.

The Adobe.com Free For All

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

So I’m sitting here trying to download the latest Flash player and its not there.  Then I came across this Reddit post and it all made sense.  Looks like someone used the download.cgi program that Adobe has had for a long ass time to read anything on the server.  Including ssl keys and password files.  Nice.
