Rich Internet Application predictions for 2008

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Ryan Stewart has an article on RIA predictions for 2008.  Most are pretty good, I mean, this is coming from an Adobe insider and all. I’m not to sure about the whole Apple RIA deal.  Apple needs a major overhaul of their software platform in general.  The .NET platform really blows Apple clean out of the water and its starting to show in Microsoft’s overall growth.  If Apple doesn’t pull up soon, the XBOX 360/Zune space is going to shut the door on the AppleTV/iPod, and you bet that Microsoft is on their butts big time.  And one thing is exceptionally true, Adobe is underestimating Microsoft.  I personally know Microsoft is revamping their Expression suite big time, they were pretty upset about the first version and are taking the gung ho, take no prisoners approach to the next release.  Not saying that the first version isn’t impressive, but its unusable compared to Adobe’s tools.  One thing is absolutely for sure, we’re gonna hear and see some major movement in the RIA space from Adobe and Microsoft, because after all its the future of the web.

Apple’s iPhone Nightmare

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Finally me and good ‘ol Scobe can agree on something.  It seems like Apple is caught in a real pickle.  They don’t want 3rd party apps being installed on the iPhone.  Probably so it doesn’t degrade the quality of the product for the first couple of years.  But the public in general has circumvented the protections and hacked the phone any way possible.  So as this has become extremely popular, Apple has created a little group of Frankenstein iPhones running around that may break when Apple updates their own iPhone software.  And after this first major update, it looks like alot of phones are breaking.  So Apple better get on the schtick and release som kind of way of modding the iPhone and installing third party apps cause they’re really going to start indirectly creating alot of disappointed customers.

BTW, did anyone notice Apple is using Dojo now on Apple.com?  Are they crazy?  I hope someone told them that the latest version breaks on Safari 3.  Good thing they’re using .4

So I got an iPhone…

And everyone is asking… so how is it?!?!? My response is pretty much the same. Small keyboard, but you get use to it. And beyond the cool features and drawbacks. There is one definite great thing about it. ITS A GREAT PHONE!!!! That simple. I’ve never had a better cell phone ever. Just for the phone period. Cell phones are just horrible. Remember back in the day when cell phones had like this huge speaker behind 50 plastic holes that you put up to your ear and could hear a pin drop? And cell phones now a days have invisible….speakers…. somewhere on the phone….somewhere??? This thing has this large hole for the ear and you can HEAR!!!! I mean really hear. And not only that, you can put the earphones in your ear with the mic attached to the earphones and its like a 10x better. And whoever you call appreciate the fact that THEY CAN HEAR!!!! Its complete genius!! A real live phone that works!

Textmate Halloween

TextMate this morning decided to get into the Halloween spirit by dynamically updating their icon.  Pretty cool if you ask me.

If you’re a web developer on the mac and you haven’t purchased TextMate yet, you’re just doing yourself a disservice.
