The UX of Microsoft Packaging

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Its always good fun to poke fun at Microsoft. And thanks to Apple we have a nice high bar for them to reach. Well I came across this article about their packaging. Microsoft should note that user experience does include packaging. ;P

Details of Microsoft’s Web analytics tool leaked to the Net

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Microsoft plans to release a Google like Web analytics tool called “Gatineau” this summer.

The tool, which is aimed at taking on Google Inc.’s Analytics product, will allow users to segment Web traffic by both age and gender, Thomas wrote on his blog Sunday. Microsoft will get the demographic data from users’ Live ID profiles.

He said then that the target audience for the project is similar to the target audience for Google Analytics, “though it’s emphatically not our intention simply to replicate the functionality within that product.” Microsoft aims to release Gatineau this year, Thomas said at the time.

On a side note I really like Microsoft’s new breadcrumb-dropdown menu they’ve been using. Very innovative.

Nibbles

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Celso Gomes is an interactive designer working at Microsoft who has come up with Nibbles: a series of “snack tutorials for hungry designers” that cover the use of Expression Blend to build WPF and Silverlight content. The site itself is a stunning example of Silverlight, with faded animations and transitions and accordion bars: it makes my own work seem feeble by comparison. Make sure you check it out - it’s inspiring…

Microsoft Surface

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

This is just so incredible. I heard about all the stuff this thing does and I saw the demo video. But I just ran across the website and I’m blown away. Mainly by the video demos but the website is great too, my hats off. Anyway, Microsoft Surface does alot of really cool stuff but more importantly its showing off something even better than a table with a screen. Its showing off the power of rich media and how it benefits the user experience!! I mean, how cool is it to just drop your phone on a table and sync your directions to where you’re going from a map you brought up with your fingers??? I don’t know about you all, but these are some interesting times.

So I’ve got another prediction, WPF is going to be rebranded as Silver … and run on the mac (like my second prediction). I’m on a roll!!!

Flash’s new major competitor - Microsoft’s Silverlight

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Microsoft has rebranded WPF/e as Silverlight. Also note that their is going to be a secret about WPF announced at Microsoft’s MIX conference. Personally I think that they’ll announce an Apollo like runtime where WPF applications can run on the mac and linux.

Why Microsoft Should Fear Apple

Friday, March 30th, 2007

So all of my Microsoft friends are gonna love this one. After all the articles they’ve sent me about the Vista numbers here’s the counter argument. (Chuckle)
